Muting

Stopping strings (muting) is a technique that allows you to make some notes / chord should sound fine without excessive vibration.

This effect is achieved by pianists, generally using the expression pedal - and new guitarists, you must realize it by hand.
Palm Muting

The most common method is to stop the strings with the palm (palm muting) and is very useful for rhythm guitar parts. Put your right palm perpendicular to the strings near the bridge / gag. The sound produced will be smaller, less expansive and will integrate well into the mix. Some guitarists played with palm muting notes describe as percusive and deeper sound. If you want an example of successful intro made with palm muting, listen carefully "Every Breath You Take" the band The Police.

Your palm should be as close to the bridge, it is true (some even put it over), but you can experiment with different positions to see what sounds you like and get more. Also, try and different levels of pressure on the ropes. But the secret is to apply pressure on all strings to vibrate freely to prevent them (and that's the goal, right?).

Suggestions:
  • if you have electric guitar, practice this technique with distortion switched on, the sound will increase and you'll know soon if you approach the desired result
  • carefully listen to your favorite tracks and try to figure out the palm muting technique is used, how other guitarists seeks alternate string off / leave them free to call
Warning! If you're starting out with this technique will not be easy. Do not get discouraged, although it can be frustrating at first - with perseverance, you will enter the reflex to effectively stop the strings! Start with power chords, then move to complete agreements.

Problems? If your strings buzz, you do not apply enough pressure. Sounds too open? It means that one or more stop uniform strings. Change hand position, use your fingertips or avoid, and yet to include in agreements strings-problem, repeat until you less.

Fret Hand Muting

If you want to ETUF sound of a certain string, you should use your left hand fingers. This technique is called fret hand muting and involves stopping the string with a finger tip or the side. The idea is to stop the strings that you will not use a particular agreement.

For example, you do not need C major sixth chord, so you can put 3 fingertips so lightly to the sixth string, silenced her.
Suggestions:
  • not to apply too much pressure, just enough to prevent the string to vibrate. With time you get to "feel" exactly how to push to get the desired result.
Warning! You'll notice that when the strings are stopped it will be harder to play up. It is natural, as opposed to being kept fixed them more strength. You can compensate for taking up more relaxed and trying not to push too hard on the strings off.

If you have questions about stopping the strings, they are welcome in the comments. Success & growth to repeat!

Pinching the strings - what is it important

Did not it odd how some guitarists playing up and completely separated by pinching the strings? A far too common stereotype is that classical musicians of the band will only use your fingers to play, while a rocker, pop-rocker, etc.. will bet more on the wedge. Which side are you?

The bad news is that it's not OK to be too adept a single technique, especially today, when peaked versatile guitar and get a unique sound, the staff must have a rich stock of feeling and knowledge. Hoping to get out a circle to a single bit of the strings, I've prepared a list of reasons why you should master and pinching:

1. Dynamics

Even if you are part of a metal band and mix your guitar should dominate from start to finish, I can not say there will be passages where you'll need a change in dynamics. A breakdown simply will not provide the warmth and character and subtle shift that you can print your fingers. You can play as loud, slow crescendos or you want as long as you own 100% control.

2. Hybrid Technique

The so-called hybrid picking is a technique that we have come to love lately, freedom of expression because they offer: while the thumb and forefinger to work with the other three are free for pinching the string. A good idea and often used in jazz is to keep your own bass line using your fingers up, while the free ones will support harmony (Tommy Emmanuel is a master of this technique). Of course the technique will not be easy at first, but I promise that if you persevere and improve coordination, the results will sound very good.

3. Alternating string / String Skipping

Suppose you want to experiment with playing some notes that do not have them on adjacent strings. When you play up, you could try to ETUF strings that do not need but might not sound good - it depends on what kind of music played. If you want to get the notes easily and precisely where you need it, playing with your fingers is a much better option.

4. Mixes

Do not know how you got into fingerstyle area so far, but I assure you deserve! Leave aside the prejudices that pinching the string was invented solely for the classical guitar and folk, keep your mind open to new possibilities and remember that most are a combination of contemporary genres and influences successful experiments. To find your perfect place at the intersection of two or more styles of expression is a plus.

5. What did you do it to you?

One reason is simple, funny, but could not be true! Suppose you're at a party with friends in the mountains, you want to impress a girl / guy or even new to try a guitar shop.
You realize it's a shame to miss an opportunity just because you're used to / a to play without key! Come on, put it in your pocket for an hour or two, experiment and you will see that you will not miss him so much.
 Success!

Correct position of the fingers

If you started to play guitar and have just recently switched to learning agreements, the biggest problem you face is buzzing strings. Hmm, how comes that sound annoying, as long as your finger's position is correct?

Well, it takes some time to gain strength and dexterity needed to play each chord ideally. First, they could make a typical mistake for beginners: Your fingers are placed as they should!

I know you probably think that as long as your fingers are between the keys is all right - but just here comes the mistake. Perhaps you've looked at a bunch of charts and agreements always drawn there were points in the middle, between two keys:) That does not mean that your fingers should stay the same on a real guitar. Instead of trying to stay as far away from finger-key, it is better to reach and even less to press the key that will support the rope.

Here's how it should NOT look like your fingers resting on Griff:

This is Do catch with your fingers away from the keyboard. If you try to get agreement so you will not ever be able to apply the necessary pressure on the string. And then, of course ... bzzzzzzz!

Here is how to correctly position the fingers:

As you see, must approach the finger on which the chord key depressed. This eliminates the annoying buzzing sound cleaner and agreement. However, beware the finger is not even on the key, because that will stop the vibration of the rope.

How to know what tempo is a song

Many beginners wonder "How can I find the tempo is a song?", Especially when they begin to register using programs like Guitar Rig and will be "watch" or simply to know what they have to set the metronome . So let's get this straight least: the tempo is measured in beats per minute (BPM - beats per minute).
It's like taking the pulse of a song. There are several ways of discovering quite affordable:
1. Using a special program: if you feel lazy / a today or simply want to find the answer quickly, download a free program on Internet (or you can try MixMeister BPM Analyzer can give you search Google for "free BPM counter). There will be only to import mp3's with the original song and the software will do the rest for you.
2. Knocking far: most music programs (from Cubase to Reason and Fruity Loops) let you use a mouse button or simply press SPACE to "beat" a track, cycling and then tempo- site. There will be only to practice a bit to be as accurate / A, and then you beat the best out of reflex. Unless you work with such programs, it's good to know that you can call a free online tool - click here now to beat the tempo of your song!
3. Manual: it's pretty easy, just that most people did not trust the accuracy of this method. All you have to do is to count how many beats are in each measure in the first 15 seconds of play and multiply that number by 4. With time you become better at counting (read "hesitations disappear) and you will not have trouble finding the tempo of a piece even if you're in a jam session in the middle of a field without access to technology:)
4. From a database: if you feel that this phase is easier to give search a database than to strive least, there is that option. Come on BPMDatabase.com and enter the name you want to know the song for tempo. The surprise is that you'll find everything you are looking for: D so you'll have to learn to rely on you, sooner or later.
5. With the metronome: vintage method! Remember that the metronome is your best friend if you want your interpretation to be an excellent groove. Set metronome at about what value you think would be adjusted tempo song and elimination ... we all learned from our mistakes! Before long, you will find much easier tempo of a song and you will form the habit of listening carefully.

Guitar Rig

Amounts do not always have enough to build our dream or sound you hear is your favorite album or use the space to its true value.
For example, a 100W amp on lamps, as all great guitarists use, given a sufficient amount as to achieve maximum performance you might not like half the neighborhood:)
The mere fact that you now have the necessary budget to create the sound of your dream or idea that you are a beginner and your passion for guitar was just emerging does not mean you have an unbeatable sound, using alternative methods. Not necessarily have to have the budget of a millionaire poker champion (ro.partypoker.com) to record good music. There are many cheaper alternatives that will make your site sound right. First you need to investigate options and try different things.
In principle, it is about using software that simulates (emulates rather) guitar amplifiers and effects.
The program that I will submit and is called Guitar Rig, and was created by Native Instruments - a leading player in the market for audio production software.
Why you need ...
For electric guitars can connect to your computer and remove all that is best in Guitar Rig, you need a decent audio card (on-board a more "east" or like semi-professional), a guitar cable and a converter jack jack large bed (you can buy from any store of stereos and costs around 5 USD).
The guitar will be connected to the computer through the Line In input (if on-board cards or those without dedicated guitar input).
To ensure smooth operation of software for on-board cards, will have to make some changes, as follows:
Start - Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices - Volume - Advanced

In the Properties menu, select Input plate and from there select Recording. Leave checked only Line In, otherwise you will face a microphone all the "beauty".
Finally, press OK and you should hear what speakers already in play ...

What can you do to Guitar Rig?

Guitar Rig simulator consists of amplifiers (you'll find legendary and Marshall amplifiers, Fender, Vox, Hiwatt, Mesa Boogie), speaker simulators and simulators effects (Distortion, delay, chorus, reverb).

Guitar Rig Advantage program is that it enables you to experiment with effects and amps in many combinations, without too much effort.

Each amplifier is put into effect or work area by click and drag. I encourage you to experiment with effects in different combinations until you find the sound you want.

You are advised to start with - you can place components as follows: before the amplifier, you can put a Distortion pedal, and speakers, and if they can put modulation effects like chorus, delay and reverb.

Another aspect that I would like to stress is that Guitar Rig also includes a tuner, which will help you tune your guitar, a metronome in order to practice the different tempos and, most importantly, two VCRs. You can use it to record what you play and then listen in order to correct any misunderstandings.

Guitar Rig is also boasts a multitude of combinations of preset effects (Presets), you can use as a starting point in creating your sound.

Genuine software can be purchased at the price of 311
€ from AV Audio Sys, and here you can download a demo version and some free presets.

In future entries I will describe some presets that you use and you can try it too.

Until then, rock on!

Sweep picking

You've probably heard about the sweep picking technique or already begun to practice the guitar - it is a smooth motion of the plume, like "sweep" light strings to get quick succession of notes with a fluid sound - combined with a move in unison as safe, the left hand.

The technique is ideally applicable for arpeggios and has been used successfully by guitarists such as Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Vinnie Moore, Michael Angelo Batio, Frank Gambale, Steve Vai and many others.

A quite common form of arpeggios sweep picking is of course played with 1-3-5 (toner - Media - dominating a game), played twice, and once added to tonic at the highest point of the sequence.
A series of notes played with sweep picking will emerge with a sound closer to classical than blues - the effect is maximized if you use the neck dose, which is sounding clearer and better defined than the bridge.
Three strings Sweep Picking

Let's start with the basic structures, three-string arpeggios are among the easiest to execute. You'll focus first on a downward sweep, catch up movement. Like this:

* You can click on images to see larger !!!!

Now you have to deprinzi and upward movement's sweep. If in May downward passages can let gravity to guide your movements, came and time to train your accuracy: it is important that every touch of the strings to be equal before the duration and intensity.

Sweep picking your passages should not sound hurried or tortured: do not throw the high speeds of the first and always keep in mind that you must first master the basic movements of this technique before he begins to build phenomenal things with it.

As soon as you feel more confident / A on their fingers and movements in this exercise, you can switch to a combination sweep upward to the downward sites. Let's start with a nice arpeggio in C Major:
Let's look less at a suitable motion for a sweep arpeggio diminished - is a bit more difficult to grasp at first, but let you know I can! Do not move in haste over the year, it will be more useful than later.

You began to master? Buuun, Lick to get a little more advanced - but be aware of, here you have to use one finger on his left hand to stop the strings that do not need. Do not be afraid of this little arpeggio, and especially do not forget that we are still in the "sweep the three strings. " If you do not pass over this milestone, how do you expect to walk your fingers easily on all six strings, a sweep picking the perfect ten? Here it is:

Here's what Paul says Gilbert, brilliant guitarist and master's sweep picking !!!
